"Hands up who's guilty? You pull on your bright cycling jacket or strap on your Sam Browne belt, so that you're visible in traffic. Then you pop your dark coloured rucksack over the top and sail off. Thanks to that rucksack, the top half of your body is effectively invisible. Urban Glow have come to the rescue with it's rucksack cover. This is a simple, relatively inexpensive product that could transform London's streets if all rucksack wearing cyclists were given one for Christmas.
It works like a shower cap for your bag. It's got a generous, chevron-shaped yellow and silver reflective band that sits right across the middle. There's also a tab through which you can clip an LED light. Positioning the reflective strip for maximum effect is easiest if you enlist someone to have a look from behind as you cycle past. If your bike gives you a fairly upright position, the stripes will probably be in exactly the right place, If you've got a fairly stretched out position, the most reflective bits tend to point up at the sky. This stumped me for a couple of days, but the solution was stunningly simple - the cover works just as well upside down!
The rucksack cover is water-resistant and comes with a neat integral bag that you can fold the cover into when you're not using it. " |
